# Crown Family Philanthropies
- Crown Family Philanthropies (CFP) is a Chicago based philanthropic organization founded by Jewish Crown Family patriarch [[Henry Crown]].
- Henry Crown was involved in smuggling military material to Israel in 1948.
- Henry Crown founded Material Service Corporation, a Chicago building materials manufacturer and supplier, in 1918.
- In 1959 Material Service merged with General Dynamics, and the Crown Family became large stakeholders of the defense company.
- In 1959, Henry Crown and Co. was founded as an umbrella investment management company.
- The Crown Family is worth over $14 billion today.
- CFP stems from a 1947 initiative taken by the Crown Family to allocate money to philanthropic causes.
- The CFP was originally called the Arie and Ida Crown Memorial, named after Henry Crown's Parents.
- In 2009, the Arie and Ida Crown Memorial was reconstituted as the Crown Family Philanthropies.
- The CFP has ~$1.06 billion in net assets.
- The CFP distributed ~$91 million in 2023.
