2026-02-22 12:22:AM <br/> Tags: #AmericanJewry #people #Lobby #Harvard ![[image-238.png|530x353]] *Solow meets with President Obama, 2009.[^1]* # Alan Solow (1954-) - Alan Solow is an American Jewish communal leader and Democrat political operative.[^2] #### Solow and Organized Jewry - In 2005, Solow "made a play for the chair of the board of Chicago's [[Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA)|Jewish Federation]]."[^1] - From 2005-2007, Solow chaired the Jewish Community Relations Council of Chicago (JCRC). - At this time the JCRC of Chicago was a member of the [[Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA)]]. - From 2006-2010, Solow chaired the [[JCC Association of North America]].[^5] - Solow served as chairman of the [[Conference of Presidents]] from 2009-2001.[^3] - Solow was a national co-chair of the 2012 Obama re-election campaign.[^4] - Solow was regarded as as American Jewry's unofficial ambassador to the Obama White House.[^1] *This unofficial envoy for American Jewry role has been present in every presidency for about 100 years. Jacob Schiff, Louis Brandeis, Felix Frankfurter, David Niles, Abe Feinberg, Max Fisher, Stuart Eizenstat, Alan Solow, Sheldon Adelson, Jared Kushner, etc. All of these figures are covered in this project.* - Solow is noted for working with figures in and around the Obama Admin including [[Dennis Ross]], [[Dan Shapiro]], and Lee Rosenberg ([[AIPAC]] president).[^1] - Solow supported the 2003 [[Iraq War]].[^1] - Solow described meeting Israeli Defense Minister [[Ehud Barak]] as an "out of body experience."[^1] - Solow's wife is "an ardent Zionist who had planned on making aliyah until she met him."[^1] *Aliyah is when Jews of the diaspora move to Israel. This is an admission of at a minimum dual loyalty. Solow's wife is loyal to Israel, he is a top Jewish leader in the country, he was a close advisor to a U.S. president, he was meeting with the Israelis before and after U.S.-Israel meetings.
