# Paul Singer (1944-)
- Paul Singer is an American Jewish billionaire hedge fund manager and Republican megadonor.
- Singer began his career in law after acquiring a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.
- Singer soon left the legal field for a career in high finance launching Elliott Associates in 1977.
- Elliott Associates has since become one of the largest hedge funds with ~$76 billion assets under management.
#### Elliott Investment Management
*Note: Understanding the structure of financial institutions and investment firms is not especially relevant to this project. I am including this arguably irrelevant information as a secondary level of depth regarding the very relevant people that run these firms.*
>[!info] Structure of Elliott firms
>- *Elliott Associates, L.P.,* was launched by Singer in 1977 in New York.
>- *Elliott Management Corporation* was the original advisor firm to *Elliott Associates*.
>- *Elliott Management Corporation* was later reconstituted at *Elliott Investment Management, L.P. (EIM)*. EIM is often just called "Elliott Management."
> - EIM is an advisor to the *Elliott Associates* which is the actual hedge fund. The advisor manages and makes investment decisions while the fund holds the actual money and investments.
> - *Elliott Advisors (UK) Ltd.* is the London based offshore affiliate advisor firm to EIM.
>- *Elliott International, L.P.*, (launched in 1987) is the offshore corresponding investment firm to *Elliott Associates*. *Elliott International* is operated through the Cayman Islands for offshore Elliott activities.
> - *Elliott International Capital Advisors Inc*. is the investment manager for *Elliott International*.
> - *Hambledon, Inc.,* is the sole Cayman Islands general partner of *Elliott International*.
>- *Evergreen Coast Capital Corp.* (launched in 2015) is the private equity arm of *Elliott Investment Management*.
>- *NML Capital, Ltd.* (Incorporated in 2003) is a Cayman Islands based subsidiary of EIM used for complex litigation.
> - *Kensington International, Ltd.* is another subsidiary litigation vehicle for EIM.
>- *Elliott Investment Management* was relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida from New York in 2020. *South Florida and its east coast is a well known Jewish stronghold.*
>- ![[image-143.png|445x668]]
>- *Elliott Capital Advisors appears twice because there are two entities with the same name. One is a Delaware based advisor to Elliott Associates and the other is a offshore affiliate of Elliott International.*
---
- Elliott acts, in part, as a "vulture fund" and Singer a "vulture capitalist" (in contrast to venture).
- Vulture capital involves buying "distressed" debt; debt held by ailing companies and countries, unlikely to be repaid.
- For the risk of buying distressed debt, buyers receive a substantial discount and debtors face vastly increased interest rates.
- Vulture Capital firms will then extract exorbitant "managing fees" from the companies they just bought.
- These firms will force the companies they acquire to sell their real estate (often their most valuable and critical asset) to an affiliate/subsidiary of the firm itself.
- Then, the already struggling company will be forced to rent its formerly owned real estate while paying extra fees for being managed by the firm.
- Much of the time, this results in the failure of the company. *This private equity "vulture" process has been the death of countless American companies.*
- Elliott uses complex and expensive legal maneuvers to extract money from the failing company/country.
- Elliott will exploit the bankruptcy process and loot the pension funds of failing companies.
- Firms like Elliott sue the customers of the businesses they acquire to extract every penny possible.
- Firms like Elliott heavily lobby Congress to reduce regulations on their practices.
- Elliott and Singer have repeatedly profited of financial downturns in numerous countries.
- ==Peru==: in the mid 1990s Elliott bought defaulted Peruvian commercial bank debt at a significant discount.
- When the Peruvian government launched its "Brady Plan" to restructure and recover, Elliott refused to join.
- Elliot, from the beginning, had the intention of holding out through litigation to be paid in full plus interest.
- Peru eventually settled with Elliott, paying $56.3 million for bonds with a face value of $20.7 million, that Elliott bought for only $11.4 million.
- ==Argentina==: In 2001 Elliott (through its Cayman affiliate *NML Capital*) bought defaulted Argentine bonds at a discounted price.
- Elliott refused to join the Argentine payment offer accepted by 93% of other creditors.
- Elliott undertook a 15-year legal saga demanding full repayment.
- In 2016, Elliott, with the help of US courts, was eventually paid $2.4 billion on bonds with a $600 million face value that Elliott had purchased for only $117 million.
- ==United States:==
- Elliott profited $1.4 billion during the 2008 financial crisis.
- Singer and Elliott took over Delphi Automotive (General Motors subsidiary) after its financial downturn.
- Elliott then pressed the US Treasury to pay $12.9 billion to Elliott as part of the auto bailout.
- Elliott partnered with [[David Tepper]]'s *Appaloosa Management* and [[John Paulson]]'s *Paulson & Co.* on the restructuring of Delphi.
---
- In 2018 Elliott took a ~4.8% stake in the largest Israeli telecommunications company [[Bezeq]].
#### Singer, Organized Jewry, and Republican Politics
- Singer has always supported Republican politicians including [[George W. Bush]], Jeb Bush, Rudy Giuliani, [[Mitt Romney]], etc.
- During the 2016 election Republican primaries, Singer was a huge backer of [[Marco Rubio]].
- Singer activated his network of donors to raise tens of millions for Rubio.
- Marco Rubio is well known as "owned" by Paul Singer.
- After [[Donald Trump]] won the Republican party's nomination, Singer gave $2.5 million to an establishment Republican never-Trump PAC.
- Once Donald Trump won the election, Singer gave $1 million to his inaugural committee.
- Singer is the primary funder of the [[Washington Free Beacon]], a quasi right wing pro Israel political site.
- The Free Beacon famously hired Fusion GPS, the D.C. political investigative firm to find damaging information on candidate Trump during the 2016 election.
- The information obtained by Fusion GPS was compiled into the notorious "Steele Dossier."
- Fusion GPS gave the dossier to [[Marc Elias]], the Jewish election lawyer hired by the Hillary Clinton campaign.
- The result of all of this was the "Russia Hoax."
- In the 2024 election, Singer was a major Trump backer.
- Singer and [[Ken Griffin]] met with Trump at his Virginia golf course in June 2024.
- Following this meeting money from both began pouring in.
- Singer and Griffin were the 7th and 5th largest donors of the whole 2024 election cycle respectively.
*Marco Rubio - Among the largest recipients of Singer's benefaction.*
- Singer co-hosted a 2018 dinner with [[Haim Saban]]. The dinner served as a meeting of top Jewish donors and Trump administration officials.
- [[Jared Kushner]], [[Jason Greenblatt]], and [[Nikki Haley]] were at the dinner.
- Singer is the chair of the [[Manhattan Institute]]'s board of trustees.
- ---
- Singer has both personally contributed, and contributed through his [[Paul E. Singer Foundation]] to many organizations and causes.
- Singer gave millions of dollars, and sat on the board of the [[Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA)]], a Jewish [[Neoconservatism|Neoconservative]] think tank.
- Singer gave millions of dollars to the [[Foundation for Defense of Democracies]] a pro-Israel hawkish [[Neoconservatism|Neoconservative]] think tank.
- Singer has funded and sat on the board of the [[Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC)]].
- Singer, through Elliott Management, has funded [[AIPAC]]'s United Democracy Project super PAC with $3 million since its founding in 2022.
- Singer is on the board of the Jewish [[Neoconservatism|Neoconservative]] publication [[Commentary]].
- Singer was the principle benefactor behind [[Foreign Policy Initiative]], a [[Neoconservatism|Neoconservative]] think tank led by [[Bill Kristol]], [[Dan Senor]], and [[Robert Kagan]].[^1]
- FPI was founded in 2009 as a successor to [[Project for the New American Century (PNAC)]] and dissolved in 2017 following the election of Donald Trump.
- Singer is a major donor to the [[Israel on Campus Coalition (ICC)]].
- The ICC liaises directly with the Israeli government on targeted covert influence campaigns on US college campuses and social media.
- Singer is a major backer of [[Birthright Israel]].
- Birthright Israel brings Jewish students to Israel on ten day all expenses paid trips.
- Singer has backed the [[Jewish Agency]], [[UJA-Federation of New York]], [[B'nai B'rith Youth Organization (BBYO)]], etc.
- Singer is a vocal supporter of homosexuality, its legalization, and normalization.
- Singer's Jewish son is a homosexual, "married" to another man.
- Singer donates to pro-homosexual political advocacy groups.
- Singer lobbies the US Congress and state governments to pass pro-LGBT legislation.
- In 2012 Singer founded the "American Unity PAC," which urges Republicans to support homosexual and LGBT activity.
- Singer has been a vocal supporter continued and increased immigration to the United States.
- Singer backed the bipartisan "gang of eight" congressional group who wrote the 2013 immigration act.
- [[Marco Rubio]] was a member of the gang of eight.
- The gang of eight took a left wing pro-immigration position, attempting to essentially amnesty all illegal immigrants.
- In the early 2010s Singer made a large six figure donation to the *National Immigration Forum*, a pro immigrant advocacy organization.
- The National Immigration Forum was founded by Phyllis Eisen and Rick Swartz in 1982, both Jewish.
- Rick Swartz, a left wing immigration lawyer, was kept on retainer by Jewish investment banker [[Richard Gilder]] for pro-immigration purposes.
- Richard Gilder, like Paul Singer, was generally conservative and contributed to many Republican candidates.
- Gilder, like Singer, was Jewish, so he was greatly in favor of mass legal and illegal immigration.
#### Singer and Israel
- Singer co-founded the Tel-Aviv based non-profit Start Up Nation Central.
- Singer contributed over $20 million to fund the organization.
- Start Up Nation Central is a conduit for international businesses to recruit Israeli tech companies.
- In 2021 Singer and Start Up Nation Central launched a "economic research and policy institute in Israel that will focus on Israeli technological innovation." *(Solomon 2021, para. 1)*
- Singer has funded the *Covenant Journey* program.
- Covenant Journey brings students from Christiaan colleges in the United States on free ten day trips to Israel.
- Singer is a backer of the *Philos Project*, a pro-Israel Christian non-profit. #RedPill *All of these Christian groups dedicated to Israel are founded, funded, backed, and often ran, by Jews. *
- Singer has funded the [[The Israel Project]], a lobbying and media relations organization.
- The Israel Project was based in the United States and Israel.
- In 2008 Singer was appointed to President [[George W. Bush]]'s honorary delegation to Israel.
- The occasion was Israel's 60th anniversary.
