2025-07-28 17:41 <br/> Tags: #people #Israel #EarlyZionism ![[ben eliezer photo.png|246x368]] # Aryeh Ben-Eliezer (1913-1970) - Aryeh Ben-Eliezer was an Israeli [[Revisionist Zionism|Revisionist]] politician and [[Irgun and Lehi Zionist Paramilitary Organizations|Irgun]] operative working in the United States in the 1930s and 40s. - Ben-Eliezer joined [[Ze'ev Jabotinsky]]'s Revisionist Zionist youth movement [[Betar]] in 1929. - In 1939/40 Ben-Eliezer accompanied Jabotinsky, [[Hillel Kook]], [[Shmuel Merlin]], and Jabotinsky's son Eri to the United States to work on behalf of the Irgun. - Ben-Eliezer returned to Palestine in 1943 and ended up working closely with Irgun leader and future Israeli PM [[Menachem Begin]]. - Ben-Eliezer was imprisoned by the British in 1944 but managed to escape in 1947. - Soon after his escape he was involved in organizing the infamous [[Altalena Affair]]. - Ben-Eliezer was involved in founding the Revisionist Zionist Israeli party [[Herut]].
