# Zionist Commission
- The Zionist Commission for Palestine was organized in 1918 on the momentum of the [[Balfour Declaration]].
- The ZC was set up to send a group to Palestine and survey the situation.
- [[Chaim Weizmann]], the chair of the ZC traveled to Palestine and met with Emir Feisal of the Ottoman Empire to discuss a Jewish settlement (this was happening as the British and Ottomans are at war).
- After Weizmann becomes the head of the [[World Zionist Organization]] in 1920, [[Menachem Ussishkin]] becomes the chair of the ZC.
- The ZC represented the [[World Zionist Organization]] in Palestine until 1921.
- In 1921 the ZC becomes the [[Palestine Zionist Executive]].
- The Zionist Executive fulfilled Article 4 of the British Mandate, which called for a "Jewish Agency" to act as a governing body.
- [[Chaim Weizmann]] led the Zionist Executive until 1929.
- [[Ze'ev Jabotinsky]] was elected to the Zionist Executive Council in 1921, resigning in 1923 for ideological purposes.
