He was the editor and owner of the Hebrew newspaper Ha-Tsafira. - Sokolow was a prolific author of Hebrew and Zionist books. - Sokolow moved to Britain in 1914 to work with major early Zionist [[Chaim Weizmann]]. - Sokolow served the [[World Zionist Organization]] in a number of positions including secretary general from 1906-1910, and editor of WZO publications from 1908-1910. - Sokolow was a key figure in securing the 1917 [[Balfour Declaration]] along with [[Chaim Weizmann]], [[Louis Brandeis]], and [[Horace M. Kallen]]. - Sokolow was the central Zionist figure of the French letter acknowledging the Jewish claim to a homeland in Palestine called the Cambon Letter. The Cambon Letter is seen as a precursor to the [[Balfour Declaration]]. - Sokolow served as the [[Palestine Zionist Executive]] from 1921-1931,and president of the [[World Zionist Organization]] from 1931-1935. - From 1931-1933 Sokolow was president of the [[Jewish Agency]]. - In 1935 he was appointed honorary president to the [[Jewish Agency]] and [[Keren Hayesod]]. - Sokolow was involved in Zionist lobbying efforts in the United States in the 1920s. - Sokolow lobbied 29th US President Warren G. Harding in 1922. During his time with Harding, Sokolow whined about the Jewish hardships faced in Europe to a sympathetic Harding. - Sokolow was in the US raising funds for [[Keren Hayesod]].
